SABR (Society for American Baseball Research) is a national organization of 7,000 plus members who are dedicated to the history of the national pastime. While the emphasis is on baseball and the preservation of the games history, SABR is not just about numbers. It’s about enjoying the sport, sharing information and being with like minded individuals who have a passion for baseball at every level.
Many members of SABR find themselves focusing on individual interests and enhancing their areas of expertise by joining various SABR committees; such as those dedicated to ballparks, player biographies, spring training, umpires and rules, baseball scouts or the Negro Leagues to name a few. In addition most SABRites join one of the more than 50 regional chapters around the country and world and many members attend the annual SABR convention held during the summer.

Other chapter activities include the sponsorship of an 1860 Vintage Baseball Team, named for the first professional baseball team in Houston, The Houston Babies, and assisting SABR members throughout the country with research requests.
Members of The Larry Dierker Chapter include baseball executives, former players, former and current Astros broadcasters, a player agent and more. It also includes baseball fans who simply love the game and want to learn more about its legends, lore and history.
